Make sure you've set up everything required for end users to successfully build a profile and career path
In this article:
- Step 1. Make sure users have a current role
- Step 2. Customize how users are matched to jobs
- Step 3. Add a validation process (optional)
- Step 4. Set up job levels (only required for Career Path)
We offer plenty of customization options for the setup of employee profiles. You can define the rules for how profile works and decide how user qualifications are matched to job descriptions. In this article, we’ll walk you through a list of steps to set up profile and career path.
Step 1. Make sure users have a current role
When a user is completing their profile, CompetencyCore suggests what qualifications they should add based on the requirements of their current role (a job description). Users also need a current role as a starting point to explore career paths. We use positions to link an employee to a job description, so the first step to setting up profile is making sure that each user is in a position with an associated job.
- Follow the steps in the Manage positions article to create positions manually.
- Follow the steps in the Organization import article to import positions.
You can also turn on a setting that allows users to set or change their current role themselves.
- Click the gear icon on the top right of your screen.
- Click Settings in the Administration menu.
- Click Profile under CompetencyCore.
- Turn on the Set current role setting.
- Decide whether users will search for their role by job or by position and click Save.
- By job: Selecting a job that’s not associated to a position auto-creates a position.
- By position: Once a position is selected, the associated job appears to select.
Step 2. Customize how users are matched to jobs
Select the types of qualifications
A percentage is displayed for each job to indicate how closely a user’s profile matches the job requirements. If jobs on your site include items like education and knowledge, you’ll need to allow users to add items from those library types to their profile.
- Click the gear icon on the top right of your screen.
- Expand Architecture in the Administration menu and select Library Types.
- Click a library type to open a side panel.
- Select the Profile checkbox (changes are live saved).
Set the weight of qualification types in user-to-job matching
You can adjust the percentage of each library type to suit your organization. These weights apply to user-to-job matches, not job-to-job matches. Check out the How does user-to-job-matching work? FAQ to learn more.
- Click the gear icon on the top right of your screen.
- Expand Features in the Administration menu and select Job Matching.
- Customize the percentages and click Save.
Step 3. Add a validation process (optional)
Check out the Add a profile validation process article to learn more.
Step 4. Set up job levels (only required for Career Path)
Each step in a career path progresses from one job level to the next. When users are exploring, each list of jobs they see belong to one job level, and those levels rise in seniority from left to right. To set up job levels on your site, follow the steps in the Manage job levels article.
