A personal profile for users

As we’ve improved CompetencyCore job descriptions, individual users are now able to define their accomplishments in more detail than ever before. Now they can create a well-rounded personal profile that displays their achievements.

There are plenty of settings to customize how Profile works and what it looks like for your organization. Users can define roles and benefit from powerful customization to reflect your unique culture and needs. Optional validation settings let you set the pace and process for getting up and running quickly!

As users complete their profile, they'll see the jobs they match to in your organization. On the redesigned Job Matches page, we’ve provided a new window that shows how closely a user matches to a job. The visual displays of data give this module a user-friendly look and feel.

In Profile, we’re providing your employees with their own tool kit of competencies, knowledge areas, education, certifications, and languages.

Users can take stock of their attributes and organize them in a meaningful way. This makes it easy for them to promote their abilities and knowledge, and have an objective, standardized format to do so. Administrators and management will appreciate the ability to clearly see their employees’ qualifications and makes it easier to place the right people in the right jobs. They will be able to better understand their employees’ capabilities and support them in achieving success.

Now your employees have their own dedicated space in the software to refer to and to build on, resulting in benefits for your entire organization. The Profile module allows employees to take full advantage of CompetencyCore’s Career Path capabilities, which we will cover in the following article.

Career Paths

Career Path is a tool for employees to plan their careers in your organization. As company structures become less rigid, the way to develop career paths within a company is not always clearly defined. For instance, an employee can have an end goal in mind to become an account executive in sales but not be sure of how to get there from their current position. It can be difficult to determine what skill gaps may be preventing advancement, or what learning resources and competencies are necessary. Career Path makes this process simple, so employees can focus on their own development.

Users select jobs on an interactive map to explore their options based on organizational hierarchy. Each new list of jobs is at the next level up in the organization and a percentage shows you how well your profile matches the requirements.

If you've already figured out where you want to go, skip exploring and add your target role. Three possible paths are generated. Select the one you want to follow, and you're all set.

Your current role, next step, and target are displayed in the Profile header. This summarizes your career path. You can always refer to the Career Path to see which areas to work on or to explore a new path in your organization.

For employees, career paths allow them to explore their career options in a structured manner with clear developmental goals. Once you’ve set a career path, you can add targeted learning resources, target competency levels, educational and certification requirements, and more. All these factors represent clear goals, giving employees a sense of purpose and satisfaction when they meet these goals. For managers, they see a decrease in turnover and an increase in engagement because their staff feels that their career development is valued and supported. This reduces external hiring costs, as managers can see which staff are best suited to internal promotions or role changes. Overall, career path is a powerful tool that can be used to support organizational success on many levels.

Development plans that link to career paths

The release of CompetencyCore 8.0 is heavily focused around giving users a well-rounded toolbox for displaying their qualifications and enabling them to take charge of their careers with career paths. As a result, we’ve made improvements to the development and learning resource modules to better link to these features.

With improvements to development and learning resources modules, users can:

  • Easily create and manage plans and goals to develop qualifications.
  • Use competency-based goals to create a clearer path for developing proficiency levels.
  • Create development plans from their profile, assessments, and career path pages.
  • Easily find, bookmark, and use available learning resources for development.

We now have a more intuitive landing page for the development module with a goal-centric focus. This is because goals are central to career paths and a user’s accomplishments. Never miss a due date with indicators that clearly show upcoming or overdue plans and goals.

If you need to create a development plan, this now takes fewer clicks with an intuitive window for adding goals and competencies.

Some other new features include adding a due date to goals, commenting on or rating a goal directly from the view plan page, and viewing and reopening a closed plan.

We’ve also prioritized the information on view pages. Everything you need to know is displayed clearly, and actions are highlighted in colour so they’re easy to find.
