How-to video: Take a strength check

Watch a tutorial on taking a strength check to assess yourself against the competency requirements of any job.

If you want to know how to take the next step in your career, the first step is figuring out where you are. Strength checks in CompetencyCore make this easy. In this video, we’ll show you how to take a strength check to assess yourself against the requirements of any job in your organization.

To get started, navigate to Profile in the main menu. If your profile is empty, you should see the option to take a strength check for your current role. If you’ve already got some strengths on your profile, click View Matches, and choose any job you’re interested in. Then click Actions and select Take a Strength Check.

Click Get Started on the Introduction page.

You’ll see all of the competences (and possibly the knowledge) required for this job with dots that represent levels. Any highlighted dots indicate your level if that item is already on your profile. Select a level to display its details on the right side of the page.

Once you’ve decided on your current level, click Select. You can always switch levels or reset your response. Click Finish to submit your ratings.

You’ll be taken to the Results page where you can see how your ratings compare with the job requirements. Click the Profile tab to see the items you rated that will be added or updated on your profile. Then click Update Profile. Depending on how your site is set up, your manager’s input may be required. They’ll receive an email and a task in CompetencyCore.

The process of completing a strength check as a manager is very similar, with a few exceptions. The highlighted dots represent your ratings rather than your current levels. And, the manager has the ability to go back and edit their ratings after submitting the strength check.

On the Results page, the manager sees a comparison of the ratings. They can also compare your ratings with the required levels. Next, the manager can click the Conversations tab and set up a meeting with you to discuss these ratings.

Once you’ve had that discussion, the manager can update your profile, and you’ll receive an email notification.

Click the 3-dot icon beside your name and select Strength Checks to access all of your completed and in-progress strength checks. And that’s it! Now that your profile is up to date, you can start or continue exploring job matches and build a career path to your dream job.
